Hello fellow travelers, welcome this episode of the Puerto Vallarta Travel show. I am your host Barry Kessler and I am just so happy to be introducing you to my favorite vacation destination, and maybe even yours, Puerto Vallarta Mexico.
That music you were just listening to is performed by Alberto Perez, the owner of the La Palapa Group of Restaurants. Those are La Palapa, Puerto Vallarta’s Oldest Restaurant on the famous Los Muertos Beach, and The El Dorado Restaurant and Beach Club right next door so you can enjoy that fantastic view of the Los Muertos Pier all lit up at night in beautiful colors, or during the day in its grand splendor for breakfast, lunch or dinner, seated with your toes in the sand right at the water’s edge. It’s so romantic, it’s so, Puerto Vallarta my friends.
This week we are going shopping. I’m going to introduce you to Miguel Jimenez D’avila and his family’s beautiful store called Alfareria Tlaquepaque, located in the Cinco de Diciembre neighborhood of Puerto Vallarta. This place has so may cool items. Real Mexican made souvenir’s for the visitors or you can decorate your homes back home, or better yet decorate your new Puerto Vallarta home with the treasure chest of items you will find, but before we get to Miguel, let’s see what’s happening this week, the 8th of July, 2021…

And this week we had a lot of Rain, an earthquake and a crocodile swimming off Los Muertos Beach. Just another summer in paradise really.
Let’s start with the rain we had over 7 inches of rain last week so combining June with 11.27 inches of rain with July to date, another 7.26 inches we have a total of 20.77 inches for the year to date and compared to last year at 20.50 inches, we have finally caught and surpassed last years rainfall to date. Thanks for the information Angela the weather lady in Emiliano Zapata area of Puerto Vallarta.
The earthquake took place on Saturday July 3rd at 9:45 in the evening. It was a 5.3 on the Richter Scale and it originated in the Pacific According to the first report of the National Seismological System, the telluric movement had its epicenter 87 kilometers southwest of Villa Hidalgo, in the neighboring state of Nayarit, at a depth of 10 kilometers. So far no material damage has been reported in the region. Just about everyone in town that wasn’t drunk, sleeping or both.
The crocodile was spotted on the third of July as well off Los Muertos Pier, just south of the pier. From Vallarta Reporter Online….
If you are a listener to the podcast this shouldn’t alarm you or surprise you. Happens every rainy season and here’s another one…aww how cute, a crocodile in a hotel room…
The Cruise Industry is making a comeback, here’s an article in Vallarta Lifestyles Online…
CRUISE LINES ARE PREPARING THEIR RETURN TO PUERTO VALLARTA
Jorge Chávez
Jun. 29, 2021
For the second half of this 2021, the gradual return of cruise ships is expected, since the key maritime ports of Mexico have created the necessary conditions to host them.
In the middle of this month, the US company Royal Caribbean returned to Cozumel, a port that represents half of the cruise market in the country. The other half is distributed between Quintana Roo, Baja California, Baja California Sur, Puerto Vallarta and Yucatán. These destinations have already started working on a series of protocols to cater for trips that go from the end of July to the fall season.
Puerto Vallarta
During the end of August and early September 2021, the return of the Carnival company is expected, which comes from California and will make stops in Los Cabos, Puerto Vallarta and Mazatlán.
Holland America will also arrive in October with a new route operating with the Nieuw Amsterdam, the second largest ship in its fleet. This 21-day route from Seattle includes stops in San Diego, Puerto Vallarta, Fuerte Amador (Panama), Oranjestad (Aruba) and Half Moon Cay.
Other Holland America cruises that would be arriving are Zuiderdam (which will operate 17 cruises from San Diego between September 18 and April 22) and the Koningsdam (which will operate 23 cruises from San Diego between October 10 and April 3 Diego, 15 of them with a stop in Mexico).
For 2022, the incursion of the Ocean Victory company is expected between April and October. This new 17-day route is called ‘Pacific Paradise’ and it will sail between San Diego, California and San José, Costa Rica, but with stops in Cabo San Lucas, La Paz, Puerto Vallarta, Manzanillo, Huatulco and Puerto Chiapas.
I have a link to that article in the show notes.

So we will see if this is going to happen or not. I’ve been holding back on an interview I did with Dean Regher over at Puerto Magico last August. Back then, a year ago we were hoping we would be back to cruising by now but well, we will see.
Speaking about waiting a long time finally, the Mexican Supreme Court legalizes pot. From Vallarta Reporter online…

Legalized Pot

What does this mean to you the typical traveler? Nada…nothing has changed for us. Still got to buy it off the streets. You can’t smoke in public so the cops can still mess with you. Just be careful. Have fun and don’t abuse your new found freedom….which you don’t really have.
I got a really nice email from a new listener Allen…it reads…
Greetings Barry,
My name is Allen, and I live in Orange County, Ca. I traveled to Puerto Vallarta in December for a week, returned again in January, and was recently there in June for two weeks. I have a trip booked in September for a week. I guess you could say PV has captured my heart. 🙂
I recently discovered your podcast and have listened to the four latest episodes. I thoroughly enjoy listening to you and your guests talk about favorite restaurants, tips for visiting, warnings, everything…..
I was looking on your website for a link where I could make a small, but heart-felt donation to support the great work you do.
If there is no such link, what can listeners do to better support your work?
Once again, thank you.
Allen
Well Allen, thanks for the kind email and thanks for listening. I liked you right away, not only because you are a lover of Puerto Vallarta, but you also spell your name the same way my dad spells his…Allen, which is unusual. So is he by the way. He’s 90 and in love with a fellow resident in the retirement home he lives in. It’s all he talks about and It’s actually pretty gross so I’ll just stop there.
So Allen, I do not have a Patrion page or a donate button on the website. I’ve thought about it but the whole idea of the podcast was to make this a value for value thing, where if you were planning to take a tour, you would go to Vallarta Info.com, and book your tour through JR, right through his website. Vallartainfo.com is a tour selling outlet as well as a fount of information about all things Puerto Vallarta. So I encourage you, if you are a listener, and you are planning on taking a tour to book through him. Just check out the website at least. Now, if you have absolutely no desire to book a tour, well, when you visit a place like a shop or a restaurant or a charity, and you are there because you heard of them on the podcast, let them know why you came. That you heard them on the podcast. That’s all I ask. You may be happily surprised by the reaction.
You see, if I were to ask you for a donation, it would dilute my own efforts to help my friend JR or my restaurant friends or the many charities, institutions and organizations that I take you to.
The honest truth is I’m a real estate agent who works really hard, I’ve earned a reputation with my wife of being hard working and honest and as a result, we are rewarded with big commission checks, and airfare to Vallarta is cheap from Los Angeles, and as you know I always cheap out on my lodging, so no, I don’t need your stinking cash. I mean that in a loving way. So use JR and his website Vallartainfo.com to book a tour, donate to Vallarta Food Bank, Corazon de Nina, Rise, or just visit one of the places I take you to, and let them know why you are there. That’s all I ask Allen. And thank you for listening and thinking of me. That’s very heartwarming amigo.
I’ve been wanting to talk about what’s happening in the podcast space which includes rewarding podcasters that you like with Bitcoin, also about DE platforming and podcast episodes being removed from the apple catalog, Spotify, amazon music and about how some cool people are stepping up to protect and preserve the podcast space from folks who are seeking to silence the truth by blocking, cancelling, and stifling opposing views and science. Maybe next week but this week, we better get to our guest, shall we?

I met Miguel in a bar. It happens a lot in Puerto Vallarta. Actually I’ve had many
conversations with Miguel, but I never thought to ask what he did till we were drinking and Alex from Bar La Playa says…why haven’t you interviewed Miguel yet? He would be a great guest. So, I looked at Miguel and asked what’s he talking about? What have you been hiding from me?
So Miguel says, I run a place called Alfareria Tlaquepaque.
So I say the place on Calle Mexico in Cinco de Diciembre? That Tlaquepaque? And he says yep, that’s the one. So I scolded him for holding out on me, and made him promise to fit me into his bust schedule before I left town.
Now Tlaquepaque is part of the Guadalajara metropolitan area. Included are the municipalities of Guadalajara, Tonala, Zapapon, Tlajomulco de Zúñiga, El Salto, Ixtlahuacán de los Membrillos and Juanacatlán. A combined population of about 5 million spread over an area of 2,734 sq km. That’s a lotta people.
So I made an appointment, and walked down from my little Airbnb condo just up the street from Miguel’s place. The store is big, it has beautiful merchandise, and you can
stop in and pick up, very reasonably a piece of Mexico to bring home with you, or if you live in Vallarta, you could literally decorate your entire condo or villa with items purchased at Tlaquepaque.
During the interview we were interrupted numerous times by clients. The place is busy. So I did my best to keep the flow of the conversation between the interruptions. Think it turned out pretty good considering, so let’s go right now, to the corner of Avenida
Mexico and Peru, in the cinco de diciembre neighborhood of Puerto Vallarta and let’s meet my friend Miguel Alejandro, Jimenez Davila from Alfareria Tlaquepaque, Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

Okay, thank you Miguel. Thanks for sharing Alfareria Tlaquepaque with us. I have pictures, a map and links to get you there including links to the places Miguel talked about in the shownotes.
Okay, that should do it for this week,
Next week, stay tuned for more on the ground reports from Puerto Vallarta Mexico, with travel tips, great restaurant and excursion ideas and more. Until then, remember, this is
an interactive show where I depend on your questions and suggestions about all things Puerto Vallarta. If you think of something I should be talking about, please reach out to me by clicking on the Contact us tab and sending us your message.
And remember, if you are considering booking any type of tour while you are in Puerto Vallarta, you must go to Vallartainfo.com, JR’s website and reserve your tour through
him, right from his website. Remember the value for value proposition. His experience and on the ground knowledge of everything Puerto Vallarta in exchange for your making
a purchase of a tour that you would do anyway, you’re just doing it through him as a way of saying thank you. It costs no more than if you were to use someone else so do it. Really.
And when you do take one of these tours, email me about your experiences. Maybe you can come on-board and share with others what you liked or didn’t like about the tour.
Again, contact me by clicking on the Contact us tab and sending off a message. Don’t forget his maps, his DIY tours and his revitalized Happy Hour Board. I have links to all of those in the show notes.
And once again, if you like this podcast, please take the time and subscribe and give me a good review on iTunes if you would. That way we can get the word out to more and more
people about the magic of this place. Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Remember I made it easy for you to do just that with each episode I create. But if you haven’t been to my website,
you really need to have a look there. I have the links to the places we talk about, interesting pictures and the more all right there in my blog-posts and show-notes for each episode of the show so check them out for sure if you haven’t already all-right? All right.
Thank you so much to Miguel Jimenez Davila from Alfareria Tlaquepaque Puerto Vallarta. Stop in and say hi, buy some cool Mexican handy crafts, glassware, dishes, all
sorts of things to decorate your home or condo. You need to stop in. See Miguel.
And thanks to all of you for listening all the way through this episode of the Puerto Vallarta Travel Show. This is Barry Kessler signing off with a wish for you all to slow down, be kind and live the Vallarta lifestyle. Nos Vemos amigos!
