Hello fellow travelers, welcome this episode of the Puerto Vallarta Travel show. I am your host Barry Kessler, and I am just so happy to be introducing you to my favorite vacation destination, and maybe even yours, Puerto Vallarta Mexico.
That music you were just listening to is performed by Alberto Perez, the owner of the La Palapa Group of Restaurants. Those are La Palapa, Puerto Vallarta’s Oldest Restaurant on the famous Los Muertos Beach, and The El Dorado Restaurant and Beach Club right next door so you can enjoy that fantastic view of the Los Muertos Pier all lit up at night in beautiful colors, or during the day in its grand splendor for breakfast, lunch or dinner, seated with your toes in the sand right at the water’s edge. It’s so romantic, it’s so, Puerto Vallarta my friends. This week we are going to have a little fun and visit with listeners
Trish and Chad from Charlotte, North Carolina. Trish has been coming to Vallarta for over 20 years and she and Chad have some great stories and advice for us. We have news both local and national so let’s get to it let’s see what’s happening in Puerto Vallarta and around Mexico this week, the 2nd of April, 2022.
Time Change Tomorrow in Most of Mexico
Tomorrow morning at 2 it’s time to spring forward an hour in most of Mexico. For a little historical background regarding Mexico and Daylight savings, it wasn’t until 1996 that most of Mexico adopted the change to daylight savings time. The reasons had to do with economics of course. Being neighbors with the United States, the change was adopted to facilitate transactions with the banking and business sectors between the two countries, as well as energy savings and tourism. And even though the dates differ between the US and Mexico as to when daylight savings time happens, for example in Mexico, it’s the first Sunday in April where in the US it’s the second Sunday in March.
Actually Baja California has been matching up with the US as far as moving their clocks since 1942, and it wasn’t until like I said 1996 that most of the rest of the country followed. Interestingly enough states that border the US change their clocks with the US on their schedule, while some Mexican states ignore the time change all together. The state of Sonora, the State of Quintana Roo, and the Island territories of The Islas Marías (“Mary Islands”) are an archipelago of four islands that are located in the Pacific, about 100 km (62 mi) off the coast of the state of Nayarit and about 370 km (230 mi) southeast of the tip of Baja California. They are part of the municipality of San Blas, Nayarit, and the Revillagigedo Islands or Revillagigedo Archipelago, a group of four volcanic islands in the Pacific Ocean, known for their unique ecosystem. They lie approximately 285 miles from Socorro Island south and southwest of Cabo San Lucas, the southern tip of the Baja California Peninsula. Both are Penal colonies….don’t get excited… Prisons…Okay? Actually, if you have been listening to the show you know that the Islas Marias closed the penal colony to make room for a Vidanta Resort. Dicks…
We’ll see what happens next year because all bets are off now that the US has adopted daylight savings full time. Okay enough…Set your clocks in Mexico tomorrow Sunday the 3rd.
Police Clear Protester From The Kiosk in Plaza de Armas Puerto Vallarta
Over the last three weeks, the Kiosk in the center of The Plaza de Armas across from City Hall has been taken over by a protester who was just removed from the Kiosk. Here’s an article from Vallarta Reporter….
Listen to The Podcast
So, some real drama right in front of City Hall in our little pueblito. I don’t know, sounds pretty tame compared to what I drive by on a daily basis here in Los Angeles. And I have a link to that article in the shownotes, although all the articles from Vallarta Reporter are hidden behind a paywall so listen up or pay…
Mexican President Praises Russia and Putin and Xi’s China, Raising Eyebrows in The West
Again From Vallarta Reporter….

And with Putin demanding countries hostile to them will have to pay for oil and other commodities in Rubles, Mexico is smart to keep playing all sides, to keep Mexico’s options open if you know what I mean.
Again I have a link to that article, hidden behind a paywall in the show notes at www.puertovallartatravelshow.com.

Ruffy’s Canine Cantina, a Very Dog Friendly Restaurant and Bar Opens on Isla Cuale
Our buddies Hillary and Zoie from Texas, if you remember them, I sure do, they were our trailblazers when Mexico re-opened to tourism in June of 2020, just 3 months into the pandemic.
Remember? I have a link to that episode in the show notes, Well Hillary and Zoie have just opened up a very cool place on Isla Cuale called Ruffy’s Canine Cantina, and it’s a place where you can eat and drink while your doggie plays….They have done a lovely job on the space which is located where the Devil’s bar was for about a season, on The Island, behind Oscars, and you can access it from the pedestrian bridge, the on Juarez, known as the southbound bridge into town, just walk down the stairs opposite from the River Café, or from the pedestrian bridge over the Rio Cuale on the Malecon, behind Oscars. I plan to visit when I get into town the end of this month so stay tuned. In the meantime, get on over there and say woof, or Ruff…or just Hola. I have a link to their website as well as their Facebook page in the show notes and once again, congratulations Zoie and Hillary, see you in a couple of weeks…..

Construction Continues on The Insurgentes Bridge in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico
Speaking of the Southbound bridge the construction on the Insurgentes Bridge drags on. The hope is to have it completed before Holy Week and Easter, and I don’t know if they
can make it. We will see. Remember that bridge was destroyed by Hurricane Nora last September 28th. So it’s been 6 months under construction, heading into month number 7.
The Puerto Vallarta Travel Show Returns To Vallarta April 27th-May 5th
As I mentioned earlier I’m coming back to Vallarta the end of the month to record more interviews and bring new and interesting places to you to try out and finally after being sidelined due not only a bunch of work my wife and I have to do, and I’m grateful for that let me tell you, we have houses to sell in Los Angeles and Ventura, and let’s face it, I am a working stiff trying to make a buck so I can enjoy my favorite place in the world every chance I get for crying out loud, but if you recall, on my last trip the beginning of January I contracted the rona and was stuck in paradise 8 days longer than I had originally planned, so begging was involved I’m not ashamed to admit. But my wife penalized me one visit, so it’s been 4 whole months since I’ve had my paradise fix…so it’s about time.
I’ll be traveling Tijuana to Vallarta again and arriving April 27th, a day after my wife’s birthday…
JR’s 82nd Birthday Party April 28th,2022 at Gringo Loco in the Romantic Zone 5 PM
and 2 days after JR’s 82nd birthday, and I’ll be there till cinco de Mayo. The 5th of
May. Speaking of JR’s birthday. He’s having his 82nd birthday at Gringo Loco on the 28th of April, that’s a Friday night, beginning at 5. There will be a band so dancing might be breaking out, who knows. Anyway, if you are planning on being in town the 28th of this
month we sure would love to see you there. No gifts are necessary, although cash and booze are always welcome. However your presence is more than enough for JR. I don’t know who the band is, but I will be making announcements as we get closer to the date. I plan to have a microphone with me at the ready just in case, I mean we need to interview the birthday boy, but more than likely I will have a meet and greet planned for the

Always so full of useful information for you to add to your list of places for your next Vallarta Visit. And with that in mind, let’s get to our guests, Listeners Trish and Chad.
Having Fun With Trish and Chad in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico
As I just mentioned, listeners have some of the best ideas because many have had years of experience visiting our favorite little paradise in Mexico. They have watched the town
grow up, seen restaurants come and go and many of them have actually left the comfort of their resorts, condos and hotels to stretch their wings, to explore and discover new treasures along the bay. Some become part of the community and give back as well. That describes my friends Chad and Trish.
They have been loyal listeners from the beginning, and we have now been Facebook friends for starting on 6 years, can you believe I’ve been doing this show for 6 years now? I’ve been threatening Chad and Trish that I was going to mail them microphones so we
could get their stories, but after years of being virtual friends, finally, our paths were going to cross. We were going to be in Vallarta at the same time.
So, I grabbed them at Bar La Playa and said let’s go up to my Airbnb right there at the Plaza Mar. Come up to the room, let’s throw open the balcony windows and let the
sounds of the Malecon drift in while we talk about your experiences in paradise over the years. So let’s go right now, to the third floor condo overlooking the Malecon and Burros
Bar, right in that area, and let’s have a visit with my friends Trish and Chad, in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
