Hello fellow travelers, welcome this episode of the Puerto Vallarta Travel show. I am your host Barry Kessler and I am just so happy to be introducing you to my favorite vacation destination, and maybe even yours, Puerto Vallarta Mexico.

Open Mic Meet and Greet at Nacho Daddy

That music you were just listening to is performed by Alberto Perez, the owner of the La Palapa Group of Restaurants. Those are La Palapa, Puerto Vallarta’s Oldest Restaurant

La Palapa, Puerto Vallarta, México

on the famous Los Muertos Beach, and The El Dorado Restaurant and Beach Club right next door so you can enjoy that fantastic view of the Los Muertos Pier all lit up at night in beautiful colors, or during the day in its grand splendor for breakfast, lunch or dinner, seated with your toes in the sand right at the water’s edge. It’s so romantic, it’s so, Puerto Vallarta my friends.

This week we go back to May of 2021. Just a month ago, and we had a meet and greet at JR’s new Meet and Greet venue, Nacho Daddy in the romantic zone of Puerto Vallarta. We had a bunch of great guests who we will be bringing to you shortly with terrific suggestions about everything Puerto Vallarta, but before we go to the Meet and Greet, let’s see what’s happening this week in Puerto Vallarta, the 14th day of June, 2021.

Canada Changes Travel Rules

For Canadians, we have changes in the covid motel 19 rules and regulations. If you have had the jab, you have clout….from Skyscanner Canada we have this news…

COVID-19 travel news: It was announced on Wednesday that starting next month, fully vaccinated travelers currently allowed to enter Canada will be able to skip the required hotel stopover and 14-day quarantine. Canada is scheduled to receive millions more COVID-19 vaccine doses from the U.S. in the coming weeks. Some travel restrictions in Ontario and other provinces are being lifted this month, as provinces submit their reopening plans. Air Transat announced it will begin to gradually resume flight operations starting July 30, 2021. Air Canada flights to India are set to resume on June 20, 2021.

WestJet is resuming some domestic and international flight routes starting this month. Services to Atlantic Canada and parts of western Canada will be available, including international flights to Mexico, the Caribbean, and the UK.

So, things are loosening up a little bit for Canadians wanting to travel to paradise.

Smoking Ban in Puerto Vallarta

Last week I told you about a new smoking ordinance regarding smoking in front of establishments and a crackdown on Bars that allowed their patrons to smoke out on the sidewalk or at sidewalk tables. When I asked my friend Johnny D, you remember Johnny D, the hot pickle guy from Canada, about the current situation and here’s what he said…Some bars totally ignoring it, some bars have never been told no smoking, Pour Favor back smoking outside, que Pasa no smoking. Yet you can stand in front of Pour Favor or any bar and smoke. As long as you have no drink in your hand.

So that’s how it stands now….film at 11.

Carrying Pot at The Puerto Vallarta Marine Terminal is a No-No

The Port in Puerto Vallarta is Federal Property

And speaking of smoke and smoking, I thought I’d pass this piece of useful information to any of you who partake in the hippie lettuce. If you are planning on taking any boating excursion out of the port, onto the bay, like the Pirate Ship or a pleasure trip to Yelapa, do not bring any weed with you. The federal authorities may search you, and either turn you away and suggest you return the next day without the weed, or even worse, arrest you for having the weed on you.

I’ve had two people now tell me about their experience. One was arrested and had to be bailed out, the other was just a bit too loose with his lips and mentioned to someone that he had some spleef, and the federal officer in charge overheard the conversation and gave him the option to come back the next day. The other looked a bit suspicious and the officer asked to see his pack of cigarettes and inside was a couple of rolled joints, and they proceeded to arrest him and take him to jail. On the way the arresting officer looked at him and said he would have preferred not to have arrested him because of the paperwork. Then the officer explained to him that a cigarette pack is the first place they look. Next time, hold the joints in your closed hand.

Anyway, the arrested cruiser was bailed out and their planned daytrip was a total loss.

So let that be a lesson to you, the port is federal property and you should avoid carrying the nasty weed…okay?

Listener Letters

Tell Us Your Taxi Story in Puerto Vallarta

I got this lovely email from Alan from Canada…

Message Body:

Barry – I love your podcasts. I am in the process of catching up on many or all of your past editions. before I started listening regularly in 2020. Thank you very much for all of the time that you invest in producing such high-quality podcasts for your listeners and for the benefit of all of the wonderful merchants and people of PVR!

So far, I have not been successful in finding your “show notes“. Could you please send me some instructions or a link on how I get there. For example, I was trying to find some specific information that is not in the overall blog recap, but will be in the “show notes“ for the Gil Gevins interview back in early 2018.

Thank you once again, Barry!

Okay, thank you Alan.

So, to find my blog posts you go to my website at www.puertovallartatravelshow.com, and go to the menu and find the tab that says blogpost and Podcast, and you click on that. You will find the most recent 10 blogposts, and you can search clear back to the very first podcast episode in December of 2016. At the bottom of each page is a search box where you can type in a keyword and podcast episodes, blogposts that correlate with the search term will come up. Now my blog posts are actually my shownotes. Along with the posts I usually include links to restaurants and places the guest interviewee mentions during the interview. I usually do this although lately I have been remiss at linking and making these lists in the shownotes. I do have the info at the ready but I need to do a bit of catch-up because I’ve been caught up in life, and it’s been nuts.

So, Alan, if you need some info from that interview I had with Gil a few years back, send me another email with the specific and I will get you the answer for you. But yes, the shownotes are my blogposts.

Now I wanted to talk to you about the best ways to listen to the podcast and changes in the podcast world including DE platforming and episodes being taken down by some of the big boys. It’s going to take longer than we have today so we’ll save it for later. Just remember if this podcast should ever disappear from your podcast app, you can always find the podcast at the website www.puertovallartatravelshow.com . That’s my website. And you will always get the best audio quality when you download the audio directly from the blogposts on my website, or by going to my media host which is Libsyn.com at https://puertovallartatravelshow.libsyn.com/ where you will find the audio file that I upload myself. Some of the podcast apps add their own ads which I make zero on. Many other applications make a copy of my MP3 file by compressing it and making it in my opinion unlistenable. So, if you want the best audio without someone putting ads in, download the audio from my website or from my media host. I have links in the shownotes.

My Media Host Libsyn

https://puertovallartatravelshow.libsyn.com/

Maybe next week I will talk about what’s going on in the podcast space but if I happen to disappear, you know where to find me.

So thank you again Alan for the email. I hope that helps, and let me know if you need help finding something in paradise.

Okay, let’s get to our Meet and Greet…

Open Microphone Podcast Meet and Greet in Puerto Vallarta May 2021 at Nacho Daddy

Whenever I come to town I try to plan at least one meet and greet with JR at his Tuesday meet and greet that he has been doing for years now. Over the years we have been meeting at Kelly’s Pour Favor Saloon and Cookhouse, but this year JR chose to make a change and move his meet and greet place to Nacho Daddy over on Basilio Badillo.

So the meet and greet that you are about to listen to was recorded about a month ago, May 11th, 2021. And I was so happy to see so many of our friends in town. Almost all of the people you will hear from coming up have been on the show before, and I pumped them for their most up to date suggestions and observations regarding our beautiful Puerto Vallarta. I will do my best Alan, to link all these suggestions you are about to hear, in the show notes and by this time you know where to find them. So let’s go right now to Basilio Badillo 287 in the Emiliano Zapata Neighborhood of Puerto Vallarta, and meet the gang at out May Meet and Greet at Nacho Daddy, Puerto Vallarta…

of saying thank you. It costs no more than if you were to use someone else so do it. Really. And when you do take one of these tours, email me about your experiences. Maybe you can come on-board and share with others what you liked or didn’t like about the tour. Again, contact me by clicking on the Contact us tab and sending off a message. Don’t forget his maps, his DIY tours and his revitalized Happy Hour Board. I have links to all of those in the show notes.

And once again, if you like this podcast, please take the time and subscribe and give me a good review on iTunes if you would. That way we can get the word out to more and more people about the magic of this place. Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Remember I made it easy for you to do just that with each episode I create. But if you haven’t been to my website, you really need to have a look there.  I have the links to the places we talk about, interesting pictures and the more all right there in my blog-posts and show-notes for each episode of the show so check them out for sure if you haven’t already all-right? All right.

Thank you so much to all my friends who joined in the fun at JR’s meet and greet and our open microphone podcast! Thanks to Chris and Gilbert, to Marty and Jeanine, to Ray and Cheri and to Jeff Musto the PV Kid. Thanks to you JR for allowing us to horn in on your meet and greet, and thanks to our friends at Nacho Daddy for your kind hospitality. We love you guys!

And thanks to all of you for listening all the way through this episode of the Puerto Vallarta Travel Show. This is Barry Kessler signing off with a wish for you all to slow down, be kind and live the Vallarta lifestyle. Nos Vemos amigos!
