Viviana Nolberque of La Martina Art Puerto Vallarta

Debbie’s casa and have a chat with artist Viviana Nolberque. Viviana is an artist, a muralist, but she’s most famous for her canvases which she makes herself, constructed from recycled wood from pallets. The name of

La Martina Art Puerto Vallarta

her business is La Martina Art, Puerto Vallarta. It’s a two for again but before we get to Gina and Viviana, it’s a busy week in paradise, let’s see what’s happening this week in Puerto Vallarta, the 26th of May, 2023.

Pride Week Puerto Vallarta 2023

Pride month is coming to an end in Vallarta and yesterday was the big Vallarta Pride Parade. When Vallarta does Pride, they don’t disappoint. And intrepid veteran reporter Salvador Estrada, my boots on the ground on The Malecon. Well, wheels on the ground. Salvador sits in a wheel chair on the Malecon, selling candy and cigarettes and trinkets to disco goers and the throngs of tourists and locals that walk past him, it the spot where he sits, right next to the three loud, well, now four loud nightclubs next to each other, there in the downtown area of the Malecon. I bought a new phone for Salvador a year ago and it’s paid off in spades. I get sunsets and foreworks from the Margalante, every night from Salvador. And yesterday, I started getting videos of the parade from him in about one and a half minute clips. So, I uploaded them to The Puerto Vallarta Travel Show Facebook page, as well as to JR’s Vallarta Advisor Facebook page. If you are interested in how it went, you can find it all right there, and I have a link to the Puerto Vallarta Travel Show Facebook page in the show notes.

Mobile Museum, A Bus Will Bring Vallarta History Around Puerto Vallarta on a Weekly Schedule

Now, in keeping with the theme of looking back over the years from Vallarta’s infancy to where she is now, the unveiling and inauguration of a new mobile museum, will take place on the 31st of May.

Here’s an article from the Tribuna de la Bahia….

Arturo Pasos Muñoz

Arturo Pasos Munoz

Now if you remember I interviewed a historian of sorts, many years back. Arturo Pasos Muñoz. Arturo, was a photographer in Vallarta. He and JR, who also worked for a local Vallarta paper as a photographer in the day,  used to cross paths according to JR.  At the time, way back then, this was August of 2019, Arturo was talking

about raising money for a museum. And, just recently, he started posting about a surprise coming to Vallarta on the 31st. So, I messaged him, and he concurred, this mobile museo, is that museum he was talking about on the podcast. So finally, after 4 years, the dream, although it’s not a building, is coming true for Arturo.

El Bicho Latino is For Sale

The Museo Bus looks beautiful, and if you follow the link to that article from the Tribuna de la Bahia, you will see for yourself just how lovely a job was done by Ada, and Colorina, and Marcella Lepe. Go to the show notes. I also have a link to that interview I did way back when with Arturo, in the show notes.

El Bicho Latino in Puerto Vallarta

Speaking of converted busses, Remember I interviewed a couple who were parked on the Malecon, with their bus called El Bicho Latino? Well, the bus is for sale. You can find it in San Cristobal de las Casas, Mexico, and you can buy it for $49,000 US…I have a link to the for sale info for this Mercedes Benz 1114. It’s registered as a mobile home in Argentina. Built in 1986. It’s 9 meters long, has a barely broken in low consumption diesel engine. The new engine was built in 2003.

I have a link to their for-sale description of this one of a kind vehicle in the show notes, as well as a link to that interview I had with them.

The Road from Patagonia to Puerto Vallarta by Bus El Bicho Latino

I wonder if it would pass Verification in Vallarta? Probably not…and yes, there are still sporadic maneafestations. Protests blocking traffic and making life a little more colorful in paradise.

Stayed at Andale’s Suites above Andale’s Restaurant and Bar in Puerto Vallarta

Speaking of colorful, my wife and I had a neat experience for her birthday. We stayed the night in the suites above Andale’s.

I was tossing around spending one special night in a place in town. We were staying with Deb and Ray in their lovely Pitillal hideaway, and I was kind of scrolling through the Airbnb app, and lo and behold, there was a listing for the suites above Andale’s. It was like $110 a night including tax and cleaning fees and all that stuff they pile on top. So I decided, what the hell. If it’s too loud, we’ll just hop in a cab and high tail it back to Pitillal. So, when we returned from the Botanical Garden, we planned ahead and each had a change of clothes and our toiletries in our daypacks, we walked down from the bus stop, and checked in to Andale’s suites.

We were given a pass key that opened an elevator just to the right of the restaurant. And that elevator takes you up to the suites. This was on the 6th floor, and the room was

very nice. It was a fishbowl. It had windows all around so you has a fantastic view of Olas Altas. And there was a communal dipping pool down a flight of steel stairs. There was an ocean view as well. It was very, very cool. Now the bed, oh…that was a different story. It was a queen sized bed so a little small, but we couldn’t get over how lumpy the mattress was. I mean, we were just wondering how many drunken one night stands happened here after the 20th rendition of save a horse, ride a cowboy, or who the eff is Alice….

That bed….oh man.

Vallarta Sunset From Andale’s Suites Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

But the location, the best. We were ready for a noisy night with music and police whistles blown by the tequila shot lady, but nope. Very quiet. Well, relatively speaking. I did mention to Jorge that room needed a new mattress in case you are wondering.

I have some emails I need to get back to, and I have some I want to read you, but that will wait till next week. I also have some new Taxista Stories I wanted to share, but next week for that.

Best Honest Margaritas in Puerto Vallarta

I also want to thank Reggie from Tennessee and Matt from Canadia who chimed in on my Margarita question from the last show. Where can you get a good, honest margarita in Puerto Vallarta. Reggie likes the margarita

at Jorges Hideaway and Shrimp Shack. Says they are good, and strong. Matt likes Bar la Playa. Both good

Jorge’s Hideaway

choices but neither of them serves those in a big old fashioned margarita glass. Just saying. But thanks for your suggestions. If you have one let me know and I’ll share with everyone. Just looking to get you good and happy.

By the way, Matt and I had a talk via the telephone last week. Looking forward to meeting you and Jodi in January amigo. By the way, I’m listed. You can call me anytime you know. Just don’t try to sell me anything. And Don’t call me in the middle of the night.

February of last year. February of 2022. So at the time I promised I’d stop in and visit with Gina in her new location. More centrally located, not far from Costco if you know where that is in Vallarta.

Now, Puerto Vallarta is a little town, and it’s sometimes strange how things are often, connected in some way. And how those connections intersect. For example, when went to visit with Gina, she had art on her walls in

the restaurant, painted by our next guest, Viviana. The house I was staying at, Deb and Ray’s Pitillal casa has a lovely, simple mural that was painted by Viviana about a year ago, on their cute downstairs patio walls. And the

La Martina Art Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

last time I stayed with Ray and Deb back in January, in my guest bathroom, the very same painting I was admiring on Facebook, days earlier, painted by Viviana was hanging right there. So it was meant to be, I asked

La Martina Art Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

Debbie if she could set up a meeting with Viviana on the roof of their house, and voila, it was arranged. Viviana came up to the roof with her daughter, Martina in tow. Martina is the namesake of her studio, but Viviana

La Martina Art Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

explained to me that although Martina is a very talented artist in her own rite, she does it as a hobby. And all the work produced by La Martina Art, is done by Viviana.
